I've never tried a wheel and a wheel wouldn't really work where I play the xbox but I would like to give one ago. The best thing i bought and something that has improved my driving is the Elite controller.
Have been with the g920 Logitech. Picked it up for half price (peds and stick included) at Curry's was done to 229 for The kit.
It's served me well. A lot of play on 6 Horizon and also r factor and won tyres on pc. The wheel now has some play in it But still works fine. Would consider this kit super value for money in the currys sale that comes up every year.
Is it faster NO ultimately not, but it is a different experience, in car on race day feels immersive and very different
Will be picking up a fanatec kit ready for FM7. Mega expensive but again a class above

I also have the g920 mounted in a rig set up full time in my den, would love to hear how you find the fanatec. My wheel is not very old but will replace as soon as it breaks as I agree the immersion transforms the game and would not return to the controller. Fergie runs the same set up but also use the elite pad and achieve very similar lap times.
Anyone in Central Scotland racing in Delta are welcome to come and try out my set up before splashing out on a wheel.
I use a simple gamepad, came with the box. No Elitism here haha. I would like to pick up a wheel one day, but I always hear mixed receptions. It's cool to have the extra immersion, but the stories of broken wheels are still not uncommon anno 2017, and I'd hate to fork over 300 bucks and break it after a month. Controllers pretty much never break down unless you throw with them, and when they break it's not very costly.
Maybe I should start thinking about getting an Elite controller though, my mate Jedi's got one, on most stages he's already keeping up with me and he's only got the game two weeks!

The elite controller gives a much better vibration so it's easier to feel when traction is being lost and locking of brakes almost never happens, again due to the vibration. The controller also feels solid and more tactile to use. The extra long inter changeable sticks also make a nice change and it comes in a nice case
It is expensive, but I reckon it's definitely worth the money.
I was always a controller racer, original pad then bought an elite pad, mega difference, trigger lock the brakes and never lock up, then i bought the g920 after having a go on Brians, lap times are very similar to the elite pad but as steve said, it is way more immersive on the wheel and more enjoyable when you nail that one fast lap ππ. As i don't have a man cave yet i just use it on fridays and sundays and still use the elite pad through the week. I would say if you are using the standard controller then it is defo worth upgrading to the elite, takes a few hours racing with it to get used to the paddles on the rear, which can be removed for other games.
I'm on a standard controller. Heard the benefits of the elite but just can't Justify the cost right now.
Good to hear you can go that quick with just a standard controller. What break pressure do you usually run Warwick? I've been asking elite users the same question but those fancypants can lock their triggers halfway...
