Here's a question for you all.
I'm currently racing in another league and this happend during the last race at Watkins Glen. I was in 3rd and was under pressure from the car behind. He got a good tow on the straight and pulled alongside. I already positioned myself as best as i could to stop him taking the inside line. So my question is; was i the guilty party or was the other guy at fault?
I'm in the white/black/red Scirocco and he's in the blue car. Once I get some of your verdicts, i'll tel you what the outcome was.
Depends on any rules for overtaking. I think its one of those that both drivers should give each other room to get through the corner together. He was slightly ahead going into the corner, but not enough that you should pull out, he also didn't have the inside line covered leaving himself open. id call that a racing incident if he just didn't know you was there.
Hard call this... From your perspective I'd say he steered into you, but looking from his perspective, he was (barely) more than half a car length in front so I can imagine him steering in, expecting you to back off.
I'd call it a racing incident and leave it at that, he should've known you were there and, for his own sake, leave you more room. Then again I wouldn't argue with it if they did give you a penalty for over-defending an already lost position.
I would have to agree with it being a racing incident, you were trying the inside line & he was trying to follow the racing line. He might have thought you were a little further back & thought he had room to turn in.
Actually I think this is the other guys fault. As I understand it, he was doing an overtaking manoeuvre, albeit along a long straight, but was not clear of you, so he should not have turned in on you. It is ALWAYS the responsibility of the overtaker to do so clean without contacting the other racer. Also he would have had the inside on the next corner, dur. Not being aware of you being there is a non-excuse, with the orange blob, feet indicator and proper awareness he would (should) have known you were there.
Turning in to make you back off is not a legitimate manoeuvre.
He turned into an apex which was as good as already occupied, there was a car in the way! He did not give you racing room and not complete an overtake cleanly.

All interesting views and thank you.
At the time to say the guy was overreacting was an understatement but what probably made it worse was I didn't say a word as it would have served no purpose. I just re-joined and surprisingly had no damage. His car was damaged so the safety car was deployed; meanwhile I dropped to 9th position.
I reviewed the footage and felt I was clear of blame. I was braking for the apex and had nowhere to go and he cut in, all be it slightly but enough to make contact. However watching it from behind his car; i can see why he turned in.
I messaged the guy and explained that in my view it was a racing incident and no one was to blame but it would be up to the stewards inquiry should there be one. He replied and apologised for cutting in and for his reaction at the time. All very civilised and exactly how it should be sorted out.
One more thing; i'm pretty sure if he hadn't have been effing and jeffing and concentrated on getting out of the spin and slide; he would have missed the wall and re-joined. I'm not an expert driver by any means but after years of watching the BTCC, if you slide like that in a FWD drive car; floor the accelerator to get the car back round, once straight touch the brake to re-gain full control and away you go which I did and it worked. Point to me
If you guys have similar incidents (not from our races!!!!) feel free to post so we can view them and give our views.

Having previously raced with ORL I can say they used to do this quite alot (create a "racing incident" where you'd get the blame/penalty)
from the footage the other driver would have easily seen your car on screen in chase cam and would have seen the side of your car in his mirrors in driver cam, you'd have been all over his rear view mirror in bumper/bonnet cam also. He never gave you a full cars width and cut you up going into the corner causing the crash.
My verdict, he should have backed off or took a wider line going into the chicane as you ha the inside line and were always going to have that corner.
I would say this is a racing incident. I have raced with the other guy a few times in the past and hea not the type to cause an accident intentionally.
