FORZA COMMUNITY WELFARE
WHY ?
During my time with Delta and prior as part of a large GTA crew leader, I have come across numerous fellow gamers that have struggled with aspects of their mental health, caused by a wide variety of triggers, grief, relationship breakdowns, addiction, financial stress, bullying and suicidal thoughts.
WHAT ?
Forza Community welfare, is not intended to provide or replace the need for professional help.
It is here as a point of information to help you find support and access to professional help. In this thread you will find a short introduction and also separate threads for Helpline numbers, Crisis support and 5 steps to wellbeing.
Currently the information is for support in the UK only, we realise that Delta has registered drivers from across the world. And we hope to develop this information. The information provided is from the NHS.uk website www.nhs.uk
Is your life in danger?
If you have seriously harmed yourself – for example, by taking a drug overdose – call 999 for an ambulance or go straight to A&E.
Or ask someone else to call 999 or take you to A&E.
For support and access to services, out of hours call “NHS direct” or “111” or your arrange an emergency appointment at your “GP practice”
My story
There are many reasons why we game or race on Forza including enjoyment, relaxation and competition.
On a personal level I got back into gaming as away to escape and cope with the grief I was suffering after the loss of my dad in 2010.
At the time found myself unable to sleep, struggling for purpose and motivation I would go to bed and find that my mind started racing/thoughts took over and this increased anxiety, which effected my work, family life and wellbeing. I didn't want to seek professional help, something looking back on and with my own medical knowledge I should have done ! in many ways I took the difficult road, One evening My wife bought me an Xbox 360 with the words “if your gonna be up all night, you might as well be doing something”
So I did, I found an escape, in the battlefield games a place we’re I was in control, we’re I had to stay alert, I could think and plan in an organised way providing distraction and respite from RL. I enjoyed gaming, I looked forward to getting online, and that improved my outlook during the day.
I started playing GTA, and due to the nature of the game and its large diverse community started to talk and play with other gamers. I becane move involved within the community and started organised events, I found some purpose, giving back to people who attended, though their enjoyment of things I had created, I founded a community that grew and despite distance, or never meeting in person formed strong friendships.
This helped my confidence, i learnt new skills, I created content, I could express aspects of my personality that had been numbed during the grieving process. And then use this confidence to aid my recovery in Real life.
I still continue to be involved with the GTA community I founded, with over a 1000 members 7 years on it’s still going strong. 3 years ago myself and another founder member of that GTA community decided that we loved racing obviously Something we could not afford or fit in around family and work, however virtually it was achievable, it proved to be a place we’re we could develop further skills, and gain satisfaction and a sense of achievement and enjoyment this is Delta.
